WORK NOW PROGRAM

Workforce Development (UCAWD) has managed the New York City Human Resources Administration's Work Now program since 1997. The program has a field staff of approximately 100 and a base of over 50 education and training providers, and a current yearly budget of $20.5M.

The UCAWD is responsible for coordinating Work Now's:

  • Day-to-day program operation inclusive of recruitment and appointment of personnel, procurement of goods and services and compliance with federal mandates;
  • Fiscal administration and audit accountability;
  • Contractual agreements with training providers funded on a milestone achievement basis; and
  • Technical assistance to individual providers.

The Work Now program's priorities are:

  • To assist New York City in meeting its participation rates and job entry and job retention goals.
  • To further expand welfare to work programming and services for Family Assistance (FA) applicants and recipients and non-custodial parents of children receiving FA.
  • To provide additional resources to employment and training sectors of the economy experiencing or projected to experience employment and wage growth.
  • To enhance services offered by existing programs and implement new programs and activities.
