WORK
NOW PROGRAM
Workforce Development (UCAWD)
has managed the New York City Human Resources Administration's Work Now
program since 1997. The program has a field staff of approximately 100
and a base of over 50 education and training providers, and a current
yearly budget of $20.5M.
The UCAWD is responsible for coordinating Work Now's:
- Day-to-day program operation
inclusive of recruitment and appointment of personnel, procurement of
goods and services and compliance with federal mandates;
- Fiscal administration and
audit accountability;
- Contractual agreements with
training providers funded on a milestone achievement basis; and
- Technical assistance to
individual providers.
The Work Now program's priorities are:
- To assist New York City
in meeting its participation rates and job entry and job retention goals.
- To further expand welfare
to work programming and services for Family Assistance (FA) applicants
and recipients and non-custodial parents of children receiving FA.
- To provide additional resources
to employment and training sectors of the economy experiencing or projected
to experience employment and wage growth.
- To enhance services offered
by existing programs and implement new programs and activities.
